We start learning English with 26 letters which are called the Alphabets. Though there are only 29 letters we have altogether 44 sounds in English. You know why? Because Many letters in English have more than one sound. Single letter represents more than one sound and one sound can be represented using different letters. Confused? Let me put it in simple examples:
letter g has two sounds – /g/ and /j/
the sound /k/ – can be written as letter c or letter k
